Etching/ Aquatint, 2010
Several times a week I ride my bicycle alongside Footscray Rd and the Port of Melbourne, and contemplate the city skyline. I am intrigued by the way this impersonal and distant yet grand skyline view contrasts with the more intimate and personal rubbish that we deliberately or accidentally fling from our cars or drop on the ground that then ends up caught in our waterways and fences. We spend billions building architectural magnificence and we forget to clean up own backyard. Humans are full of contradictions! This fence of Footscray Rd also represents the alienation I sometimes feel as I head into the city.
This print has been beautifully executed with great use of contrast in tone and line.
